Sonny Africa, IBON Sonny Africa is one of the most respected pro-people economists in the Philippines. As Executive Director of IBON Foundation—an independent research group fighting for truth, transparency, and people-centered development—Sonny has spent decades dissecting how power, money, and policy shape Filipino lives. His work cuts through political noise to reveal what’s really happening to the nation’s wealth, and who benefits when public resources are siphoned away through corruption.

A graduate of the London School of Economics, Sonny has advised grassroots organizations, policymakers, labor groups, and human rights advocates. He is a familiar face in the Philippine media, often called on to explain the economic impact of government policies—from the misuse of public funds to the staggering cost of everyday goods.
