CPS Colloquium Series, Fall 2024 How do we understand the return of the Marcoses to power? Were we all just too naive or were we hoodwinked by the ruling elite? What happened to the so-called "Spirit of EDSA" that was supposed to prevent such a restoration?
This talk suggests several possible explanations behind these dramatic changes in Philippine politics.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Patricio N. Abinales is Professor at the Department of Asian Studies, University of Hawai'i at Manoa. His latest books are The Marcos Era: A Reader (which he co-edited with Leia CastaƱeda-Anastacio) and Presidents and Pests, Communists and Cosmopolitans, both published by Ateneo de Manila University Press. He is also co-author of State and Society in the Philippines. Rowman and Littlefield and Ateneo Press, 2017.
